My best guess? You have tires that are too wide for your application. How thick was the adapter? If the adapter is less than 1 inch you have a very small window to fit into. If the adapter is over 1 inch you might. just might, get by with a 1/2 inch to clear the frame and not hit the fender. Springs? I have no idea what springs are available for the El Camino. I think they were upgraded car springs.
