Since a 53 didn't come with an OD there is no factory routing. Route it in the most direct position so it is not kinked. You may need to drill a hole in the firewall if there is not one in the optimum location. The bracket below the solenoid holds the housing in place like a choke cable and the center part is secured in the drilled bolt on the arm. You may need to fabricate a bolt with a sleeve for the arm.

Gentle bends are the order of the day, three places in all to affix the cable, the dash, beneath the solenoid, and the cable itself to a cable stop on the OD lock-out. A suitable bolt, a couple nylon washers, two steel washers to capture the cable, a regular nut and a nyloc nut is what I used to make a serviceable replacement that worked beautifully in a daily driver for ten years.
