I finally got to check the intake valves. 2 were a little tight, the rest looked OK. It still does its popping thing, but I cut an inch off thoke cable and put in a short piece of small chain so when it moves the choke plate now it doesn't bend the cable and the air flowing through the carb pulls it back open.
