I bought this liquid masking film at a local hobby shop when I was preparing to paint the bowties on my '54 hubcaps. It might help mask the curves on your hubcaps. Lay it on thick and cut out the area to be painted with an Exacto knife. Don't know if the knife will damage the chrome.
> Masking FilmI ended up not using the liquid because my bowties are mostly straight. So I used 1/4" 3M Vinyl Tape 471+ masking tape instead. Burnish it onto the hubcap and paint will not creep under it. The 1/4" width allows the tape to follow a curved line. Also available in 1/8" width.
