I stand a chance of being corrected but I think that basically, a flasher is a bi-metal strip that makes and breaks contact as it heats up and cools down. That is why they sold heavy duty flashers for cars pulling trailers. Too many lights on a standard flasher and the think heated up and cooled so fast that it looked like the flasher was on speed. Although possible, I doubt the trouble is with the flasher.
