I would caution cutting corners with brake work. You can get an adjustable proportioning valve and it should work. You can probably get by without the brake booster but it will take more pedal pressure to stop the truck. Another thing you should look into is stiffening and bracing the firewall. You would be surprised how much force is put on it when pushing on the brake pedal.
