Check for sludge buildup inside the rocker shafts while you have them off to check hole orientation. That might be why you didn't have adequate oil to the rockers in the first place. You can knock out the end plugs to ease the cleaning process. They are like really small freeze plugs and can be driven back into place after cleaning the shafts.
