The skin on my '52 doors were not spot welded. Once I ground through the fold, the left over piece on the inside of the door came off easily. But, it is possible that was a symptom of the rust. I would most concerned about welding in the door bottom skin patch panel and not warping the door skin. When that happens, good luck.
