If your Aunt is the legal owner (or her husband was) she can request a lost title from the state for a nominal fee. I'd try that first...
If the owner is not known, some states will tell you who the last known owner was based in the vin number. If you go this route, have the engine serial number with you as well (that may be the number that was put on the old title).
