There are a few that have done the 53' on a S10 frame swap here.
and many guys with V8s oldschool to New. and a wealth of knowlege. Planning out loud here can get You answers.
I'm not sure but it seems like if your using the 4L60, it's the speed senser to the computer. Someone that knows Tranny's might jump in and help you. Sorry none of my junk has a working speedometer, but I'll be lurking on your thread to see that answer also. Good Luck with your Project...
