You're going to need to remove the upper support from the column, and take the upper part of the rod apart from the clamp. You'll then be able to turn the upper support to adjust it up on the threads. IIRC, the dimension should be approximately 1/16" from the bottom of the shift lever to the top of the support with the trans in neutral.
