In the old days like around 1988 or so I got a nice expandable soft plug from napa it was all metal kinda all copper or brass looking, you just put it in the hole with some #2 and tightened the hex nut on the end and it held for years. Last time I asked at napa about them they looked at me funny.
Wow I found one I still had, made by Dorman products
Pat number 3361288 I went to their site and nothin. That is typical anything that works good they stop making it.
