When I rewired my '49 1 ton, I removed what looked like an accessory voltage reducer from the post on the ammeter that was lowest; closest to the ground. It was poorly wired so I didn't put it back. This truck was changed to 12v in the 1960's. I replaced the 12v gen with an Alt.

Everything works fine, but is this voltage reducer a necessary application for the original 6v ammeter? (or was it a fix done by someone in the past for some other problem?)

And, would it also be suggested to install an in line voltage reducer for the original gas gauge?

thanks
