I used to run a cb in my 92 chevy. I had the typical toolbox setup with a 3ft firestick on either side of it. it worked really good and with two antennas you get amazing reception and superb broadcast range. I ran that setup for 3 or 4 years, worked awesome. "Firestick" was the brand I used, and they were 3ft stick antennas. They are not a true whip, they are about 1/2" around and rigid. I really liked that setup. I plan on getting one again in the near future, I love talking to the truckers. Truck Stops are the best places to get stuff, there or online. I used radioshack wires and mounting brackets for the antennas.
Ideally you would use two antennas, this increases broadcast and reception ranges. It is also worth the money to buy good antenna wires, because this will help in sound quality and broadcast quality. You want to get the two antenns as far apart as you can, like on each side of the truck. Off of the mirrors, or the edges of the bed, hood area, etc. It is hard to be discreet and get good reception. I thought that mine looked good, but on a classic truck you may be looking for a more laid back approach?
