I haven't done it, but might be worth a try. You won't know if it affects accuracy until you make the repair. The center "bullet" will hide the repair. Otherwise, a needle from a donor '54 speedo may be the only source for a replacement
Be careful when you remove the base of the needle from the shaft. The shaft is brittle. Dab some penetrating oil where the shaft enters the base and let it sit for a while. The needle pulls straight off - not threaded.
Here's what happens if the shaft breaks. I don't know an easy fix for a broken shaft. Luckily, this happened while I was pulling a broken needle off of a spare speedo that I was using to learn before disassembling the speedo in my '54. It snapped without warning.
