The bed of my truck also needs attention. There's a solid (one piece) sheet of 1/8" steel that's slid in over the old wood which appears to be original. All the cross braces and everything is still there ... I guess the previous owner just decided to cover it with steel.
Eventually, I plan on removing everything and doing something totally original with some hardwoods.
