So what do ya see in a picture???
Been running thru Brad’s latest gift to us, “The Best Engine” and as usual I was picking
up little details that we’ve debated in these forums from time to time.
For someone restoring the interior of a ’41 sedan, great views of the upholstery.
Type of air cleaner used on the passenger cars and original AC sticker. I’ve seen these air
cleaners at swap meets and often wondered just exactly what they were for. The rocker
arm shaft connector and it’s clip for the pre-war engines. 1941 vintage gas pumps. Some
nice cross sections of the block and head. Clear view of the correct fuel pump, distributor
position (grease cup), correct type of breather and oil fill cap for pre-war engines. Clear
view of fuel and vacuum line routing and correct plug wires. Correct embossed oil
dipstick. Greasing the springs that were wrapped on the cars. A clear schematic for the oil
circuit. Interesting point made about the snug fit of a “Cast Iron piston in a Cast Iron
cylinder,” and the loose fit using dissimilar metals for pistons based on the expansion
coefficients I’m sure. Might make you re-examine that warm up you’ve been ignoring
lately if you have aluminum pistons.
Just some of the things that I’m noticing in the films Brad, tks.
Now, if only you had some color films that showed the correct shade of gray for the
engines. But…..they probably wouldn’t be of any use because they would be faded or
taken at the wrong factory, right Tim?
Didn’t see that one on ‘radios’ Brad, have to look for that one later since I’ve spent the
whole day looking at youtube and film strips..
