How about some pictures of these 1/2 mats or a printed reference, in any of the GM literature. Any mat can be cut, to cover just the footwells, on either side of the transmission hump, so just because a truck has a half-mat, doesn't mean it was factory. Conversly, a 1/2 mat can not be made into a full-width mat, without noticable, tell-tale signs of the mat being modified.

A good way to demonstrate a 1/2 mats was factory-correct or an available option, is manufacturer's or dealer's literature. Otherwise, it is based on what someone has or someone has seen.

Again, as stated above, if someone has a set of 1/2 mats, that they feel is original & factory-correct, it would be best to leave it alone, since a set of 1/2 mats is not being reproduced or purchase a full-width mat and cut it, to duplicate the set of 1/2 mats.
