As long as there is fluid above the tubes in the radiator, you are OK. If we would stop trying to "fill" our radiators and realizes we need some expansion room in the tank, everything would be "cool". If you must, there are many aftermarket recovery tanks or use one off of a donor vehicle. As you know, the pressurized system allows for higher boiling point. I think the truck pressure cap started in 1953, before that it was a "no pressure" cap. You will need a cap/radiator neck that allows a closed system to operate(allow sucking back of fluid)if you go with a recovery tank.
