Straightjacket,
I ran 6 volt for several years. I made sure to park on a hill just in case. The thing about a 6 volt system is, when everything is new and all connections are clean with no corrosion it works just fine. The rub is, as time passes and battery is no longer new and connections corrode, the weakness of the 6 volt system raises its ugly head. I have used an eight volt battery and that turned the starter over faster than 6 volt and I didn't have to change any bulbs. The 6 volt generator put out enough voltage to charge the battery. I was happy with that until I drove a buddy's AD converted to 12 volt that still had the 6 volt starter. You stomp on the foot starter and she starts up and I mean right now!
