Second the motion on checking the battery cables. If they're getting warm quickly, that's a sure sign.
I experience the same issue with my CJ-2A. Just to check I put 2 battery cables and 2 grounds, and it cranked over fine. I thought I was real smart replacing the old worn out cables with new ones...didn't think about the size.
Make sure battery is charged up too...
