B48 - depends where you found this - it might be a date casting code (Feb 4 1958)

A = 235 engine from regular transmission car
3836848 = 56-63 235 head
E93 = ? May 9th 1963? (if this is the date casting code)
The locations of the head and block date-casting codes are shown on this page. If it is a car engine, all car engines from 1956 onwards had hydraulic lifters.
