good trick, I use a mirror .... casting number 3970010 = 1968-1980 350ci, the T in the stamped suffix means truck [not Tonawanda, the V = Flint Engine assembly plant], and I believe all those were 4 bolt mains .... yes, a date code should narrow it down - should be near that casting number, or possibly on the other side, in the form 'letter[month], 2 numbers[day], 1 number[year]' - should also be date codes on heads under valve cover and usually on intakes
