I wire brushed, ground and otherwise cleaned off all the grease, grime, paint and rust flakes off, then used oven cleaner to get the grease out of the tight spots. I power washed it all, let it sit for a day or so, then treat with the POR-15.. so far so good... (My 39 was treated 12 years ago with very few problems.)
