Engine according to Date code and serial # is 1954, 235, 3100 truck, built March 30th at Flint Mich. At this time I have to assume that the Clutch, Bellhousing and Flywheel are also 1954 as I know the Transmission and torque tube driveline is. The starter that broke was a 6 volt as the solenoid on the starter was.[ The floor plunger switch was abandoned ]
I got this truck as a partially assembled project[ basket case ]The truck is now wired as a 12 volt with a one wire GM alternator. While starting it the engine backfired and broke the starter drive gear and the nose of the starter. I am hoping to replace this with a genuine 12 volt gm starter that will bolt in.
I can hope can't I ??
