...What I have grown fond of is to use the Mar-K pine wood kit, treat it with Smith Penetrating Epoxy then coat with a two part black top coat like Amerlock 400 or AwlGrip Linear Poly Urethane.

The '400 is really tough but will turn gray in the sun so no good for a show type.
