They still use the dippers for lubrication, so there's a hole in the lower bearing to align with the dipper hole in the rod cap. There's also an elliptical slot that connects both bearings to allow the oil picked up by the dipper to find its way to the upper bearing shell. The 54-61 bearings get oil from the main bearings through a drilled passageway in the crankshaft. The 216 crank is solid- - - -no oil passages. Jerry
