Hy Den99, the starter engages the flywheel from the front side. As far as the "chatter" goes, there may be rust on the flywheel and/or the pressure plate, or both, plus there may be particles of rust embeded in the clutch disc. All of those conditions will cause clutch "issues", and the embeded rust in the disc will most likely not come out on its own, hope that helps.
