Back before the big forum shake-up I walked somebody through the whole adjustment procedure on a 6-volt regulator. I don't know if it could be pulled up from the archives or not. It's a pretty involved procedure, involving setting the closing voltage, current regulator, and voltage regulator. Most regulators had to be set at 9 volts to charge the 8V battery, which is far too high for a 6V battery, and it's rough on light bulbs, etc. if you can find an old pro who is experienced on DC regulators, it's worthwhile to pay him to get the job done right.
