If you've got the driveline pulled out, a 6' or so length of pipe jammed up the torque tube will knock it right out with a little applied force with a sledge.
If my memory is right, the earlier types had a small metal dowel holding the bushings (2 of them) in place which needs to be removed.
What year of truck are you working on?

More specifically, a 6' length of 1" pipe with a pipe coupler screwed to the "business" end. Make sure the couple OD is a tad smaller than 1.625" or you will only be pounding on the "step" inside the torque tube.
