Has anybody tried the "do-it-yourself" repair on a direct-reading temperature gauge? I've read about a method of installing a new temp sensing bulb removed from an inexpensive aftermarket gauge onto an OEM guage by submerging the bulb in a bath of dry ice and alcohol to condense all the liquid, then cutting the capillary tubes near the gauge head and soldering the new tube to the old one with a close-fitting sleeve. If anybody's got a non-working original temp gauge they're willing to donate, I'll supply the new gauge to sacrifice for the experiment.
