This is an intresting topic...
I too have this same problem and did not have it before.
New plugs,points,cap,rotor wires, and rebuilt carb. I have taken a compression test and I'm at 75psi give or take a few on all cylinders. Mine has solid lifter and the intake is at .008 and exhaust .010 that is .002 larger than specs on both. I can feel the miss more when hot that cold.
I have put a vacuum gauge on and set the timing with the best vaccum, but notice a little flicker in the gauge that coresponds to the miss. I thought for sure that would indicate a compression problem but I don't see it of the readings I took. What is the specs for compression on 235's anyway. Should it be read with wide open throttle etc...
Mine is very similiar to the popping sound described. Car runs strong, can't find any vacuum leaks and the idle circuit on the carb seems to be adjusted correctly.
More than an anoyance than anything.
