Thanks for the info on the coil and points. This is what I know so far:
I have 12v at the coil with the ignition switch on.
There are two wires on the positive side of the coil. One runs back to the starter, the other through the firewall to the ignition switch.
The coil I relaced was not the trucks original coil and I always seem to go through points quickly.
I plan to check out the points as you all suggested and I'll let you know in a day or so what I find.
Also, I haven't had the distributor out.
