It's not that hard to find an original ignition switch, and they're REALLY easy to take apart and clean. Briggs and Stratton built those things tough. So far I've built one out of two damaged switches, and have a third that needs a key so I can dismantle it. I'm sure some of those 'bolters who live in rust-free areas and have acres of trucks can help with this one.
