You have timing gears,no chain. It is possible something could be broke with them, but I would make sure the distributor is working properly first. Check for points wear or looseness. If they check out ok, it's possible the distributor mount is loose.Check that. Lastly,if necessary, pull the distributor and check for shaft wooble and shaft cam gear for damage. it might be timr for a rebuild or replacement of it.
