Starting around 1952, the correct fuel pump will have the in/out ports angled 20-deg to the block ... not parallel to the block.

I "made" a glass bowl pump for my '54 by removing the top half of a '54 all metal fuel pump and replacing it with the top half of a reproduction pre-1952 glass bowl fuel pump. The two mated up perfectly. And the in/out ports were correctly positioned at 20-deg. Looks and works great.
