I just had my 6v starter rebuilt and the guy doing the work said if i wanted he would put a push button switch in the dash to by pass the foot start. This is an original out of my 53 pickup. He said 6v or 12v it doesn't matter it wouldn't be that expensive either. I would say to start find someone who works on them and ask.
