I've read over on the inliners site that this can be made to work, they recommend "If you compare the drive tang on the old distributor with the HEI, you'll see that they are slightly different. The HEI will engage the oil pump and work - but it's a good idea to massage it a little with a file or dremel grinder, for a perfect fit. It might make the difference if the clamp loosens up and the distributor wants to jump out. Good insurance for a few minutes extra work." Also sounds like you'll need some kind of clamp to keep it in place. And you'll wanna smear some RTV sealer around the shaft so it doesn't leak.
I've not done this but have read about it over there.
