yes there is a reason not to, differential expansion/contraction of the different materials, you can't just have the wood floor 'float' on the metal like a faux-wood floor in a house, it needs to be firmly attached .... which leads to the certainty that sometime you'll see the effects of moisture/condensation between them, starting with rusting screws
