| | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | If you don't have an HEI you have a resistor wire. I couldn't find a wire diagram online. IIRC you should have two wires to the hot side of the coil. One from the solenoid this is 12v at start only. The other is from the firewall and is the resistor wire. 5-6v sounds a little low, I'm thinking it should be closer to 9v. HEI is the answer, but it will be a tight fit between the distributor cap and firewall. You will also need to replace the resistor wire and the wire back to the ignition switch with 12 gauge, 10 gauge would be fail safe. Do a search there is plenty of post on how to make the change.
