There were far too many incidents of people draining 10 quarts of fluid out of the transmission, adding 5 more quarts of oil to the engine, and wondering why the car wouldn't back itself off the grease rack.

Now, the vast majority of new cars don't even have a dipstick on the transmission- - - -the fluid is a one-time fill situation when the car is on the assembly line. Fluid only gets changed during major maintenance.
