I'm in the process of adding a later dual-reservoir master cylinder in conjunction with new brake lines and freshly honed original wheel cylinders. I've got enough leftover new 1/4" brake line and extra 1/4" fittings from 1950 and older parts trucks that I could plumb the 1952 1" and 1 1/8" wheel cylinders in 1/4" line instead of 3/16". Was there some functional reason why G.M. switched to 3/16 with the smaller diameter wheel cylinders or were they saving a few pennies per vehicle with the smaller line? Is there any danger to plumbing the system with the larger brake line? I'm cheap enough to want to use up the supplies that I've already purchased but not at the expense of decreased braking performance. Feedback? Thanks!
