Hi, Any time a generator is replaced it should be polerized to get the chargeing system activated. How? Touch the Batt pole, and the arm pole at the regulator. That should get it started charging, if all is ok. As for putting in brushes, not a problem,
take the bolts out and be careful and you will see the brushes. Really pretty easy to replace.
