Go with the alternator with the internal regulator, you won't be sorry. You should be able to get one that will bolt right in, from the 70s Chevys. Randy can probably help you on the year. Iirc, 62 was the last year for the generator on the Chevy. My 63 Bel Air had an alternator (external regulator).
