I am trying to get my 1946 3/4 ton going which has sat for several years. It has the original 216 motor in it and it ran until I quit using it. I currently have the oil pan off and the head off for some minor repair. The engine is free and everything turns fine. However, for not being used for a while, the cam shaft has some tiny spots of rust on the suface where the lifters ride. Does this mean the cam is toast? Should I replace before trying to start it. or will these spots wear off with the motor running?
