Ok. I've read hundreds of posts and am ready to go to boneyards to get what I need - but I need more advice. I have a stock '51 3100 with a 216, 3 speed trans, original everything. I am doing a resto. I am looking to swap the engine/trans combo for a setup with low rpm, good street ride. I've read the tech tips, and options for a new engine with same trans , or new trans with same engine and variations.

I want to drop a small V8 with a manual 5-speed OD. I will change the rear to a late 90s Camaro Rear with 3.23 gears, and will change to disc brakes up front. I am looking for advice on what Make/models will help make this easier with a swap of both the engine and trans. I know I may have to modify supports, add crossmember, move radiator, etc.... I can weld and do mechanicals, but do not have the knowledge of various transmissions and their pros/cons.
So, ideally I'd like to go to a local boneyard and look for a 198x/90y V8 engine and the xx 5-speed trans or 199y vehicle and get the V8 and manual trans that I can drop as a unit. I dont have a preference for a particular trans model, so long as it matches up with the engine.
