I had an 8v battery in my truck for a while and it was nothing but a pain. Keep blowing light bulbs and couldn;t get my generator to charge correctly. Put in a 6v Optima battery and 00 battery cables, all my problems are gone. It spins my starter as well, if not better than the 8v.
