I removed the starter to get a little more room to work and discovered the dip stick was mounted in a seperate block of steel bolted to the side of the block. Removed the 2 allen screws and the block came right off. The tube was real easy to remove on the bench. I'm replacing it with a Lokar brand dip tube assembly which required the hole to be reamed out. So having that removalable block sure made it easy.
