Sorry I don't have the answer, but I have an idea. The starter on my dodge quit because the copper contact eroded away to the point where it quit entirely. The diagnosis was a new starter, but it only needed a $4 contact. Try a electrical shop that rebuilds starters, generators, etc. They might have a substitute for your missing brass contact.
