The position of the ground straps isn't particularly important, but if you're using the original-type flat braided ground straps, there should be one from the battery to the frame, and another from the frame to the engine block. Some folks run a longer ground cable directly from the battery to the engine block in the bellhousing area to get the lowest-resistance path for starter current. For 6 volt applications, the cables need to be BIG, #0 or larger. A smaller-diameter ground wire, or sometimes more than one, should connect the frame to the cab and/or bed to provide a good ground path for lights and accessories. These are particularly important on older vehicles with rust issues between body parts.
